Location Signs and more {from Barn Owl Primitives}

In September I was doing some Etsy research on Halloween items and discovered Barn Owl Primitives.  There are lots of great Etsy stores but sometimes you just find yourself swooning over a certain store and their products.  That is how I felt about Barn Owl Primitives!  I went gaga for their Autumn sign that was featured on my Halloween Gifts post.  I hope to have one displayed on the mantle of my freshly painted family room next year!

Location Signs
Barn Owl Primitives School Location Signs ($30 plus shipping) caught my eye as well.  My BIL grew up in the town of his alma mater, most of his family still lives there, and he has a strong connection to the school.  He, like most of the men on my gift list, is very difficult when it comes to gift ideas.  So when I saw the Location Signs I knew it would be a perfect gift for him!  I let my SIL in on the gift idea and she already has a spot in his home office for it!!

This would also make a great graduation gift for all the December grads!

Location Sign

I also love the Location Signs that are customized by town and state ($30 plus shipping).  Again, this would be perfect for someone that is no longer living in their hometown or has a strong connection to a certain city.

Family Name Sign

These Family Name Signs ($45 plus shipping) would make a great family gift!  I love group, family gifts.  I can see one hanging in the foyer or the living room.  And of course over the mantle!

Family Rules Version III

Want to know which Barn Owl Primitives sign is on my Christmas list?  Its one of the Family Rules signs!  I'd love to hang it in my kitchen!!

Pop over to Barn Owl Primitives' Etsy shop and do some swooning of your own!  Be sure to 'like' them on Facebook so you won't miss out on any fun news!

***Keep in mind all of these signs are handmade and take a few weeks to create.  Order soon to ensure Holiday delivery!***

recipes, jewelry, and paper dolls - oh my!

Yesterday was my BIL's birthday.  He *loves* Reese's Peanut Butter Cups so when I saw this recipe from That Skinny Chick Can Bake I knew it would be perfect for him!  I made one 8x8 pan for everyone to share during football and another just for him.  I wonder how quickly he'll eat the one I made just for him?  If it were me I'm sure the pan would be empty by this morning!  My husband and daughter both requested I make these for their birthdays.

Yesterday I also hosted a Stella & Dot trunk show.  Not only is it fun to try on amazing jewelry, its also fun to make some new recipes for a party.  I made Autumn Apple Quick Bread and it was so yummy!

When I sent out the invites for the trunk show I also invited my guests to bring along their little girls because Stella & Dot now carries jewelry just for them.  I wanted to be sure the little girls had something fun and special to do while the moms continued to chat, eat, and try on the big girl jewelry.  I gathered our coloring pencils and printed a bunch of these Sweet Paper Dolls from PaperGlitter on Etsy.  The girls loved the dolls and really had a great time customizing the outfits and hair styles!  Check out lots of other great printables at PaperGlitter.

LylaBug Creations {GIVEAWAY} - CLOSED

I am thoroughly enjoying Fall.  We visited our first pumpkin farm yesterday and the lucky little pumpkin that came home with us quickly found a spot next to the mum on our front steps.  I'm busy looking through our Halloween box for decorations and costumes.  But I am also jotting down Christmas ideas ...

I haven't purchased a real Christmas gift yet (stocking stuffers for the kids don't count) but I am thinking about gift ideas for certain people.  Special holiday events and Christmas cards have been on my mind.  While thinking of Christmas cards I start to wonder what my daughters will wear in the card pictures.  And what they will wear to the various holiday events.  I like my children to be comfy but dressed for the occasion.  That is when I found LylaBug Creations Etsy shop.

I think this would be a perfect Christmas outfit! Your little girl will stay comfy while still being stylish.  LylaBug also offers lots of lovely skirts for any day of the year in sizes 6m to 11yrs.

LylaBug Creations makes fun, boutique style twirl skirts (and matching tops) at budget-friendly prices.  All of the LylaBug Creations skirts are priced at $25 or less.  That is a bargain when you see the beautiful fabrics and colors used to make the skirts.

This GIVEAWAY is now closed.

LylaBug Creations has generously offered to giveaway a twirl skirt to one lucky Penguin's Gift reader!  And to make this even more exciting the skirt will be a 'mystery'.  Meaning the winner can pick either holiday or everyday fabric, and of course winner's choice of children size, and LylaBug Creations will create a twirl skirt just for you!  The style will be similar to this one:

Rosette Ribbon Bookmarks

I was lucky enough to sit in on my daughter's first day of kindergarten.  It was special to watch the teacher introduce herself to the children, knowing it was the beginning of a great school year and a great student-teacher relationship for my daughter.  As the teacher began to read The Kissing Hand to the class she paused a moment to ask the children if they had been busy reading over the summer.  She mentioned that she read about ten books over the summer.  She said she is busy reading childrens' books during the school year but she likes to read as many of her favorite books as she can during the summer.

I heard BINGO! in my head, this lovely new teacher just gave us the perfect gift idea for a end-of-year present -- a gift card to one of the big book stores like Barnes & Noble.  But sometimes a gift card doesn't seem personal enough (keep in mind, I'm a big BIG fan of giving and receiving gift cards).

I think a bookmark would make a lovely, personal addition to the gift.  Just a few weeks later I came across Belle Rose Designs on Etsy and their Rosette Ribbon Bookmarks.  They are beautiful, and priced perfectly to compliment a book store gift card at just $5 (with free shipping!)!
